The Luperón harbor, located west of Puerto Plata, is a large, protected bay that is home to rays, dolphins, and manatees. These animals are sometimes seen near the harbor entrance, especially by kayak groups that depart from our marina in the mornings. The bay also shelters various fish and is safe for all types of vessels, including cruising boats, power boats, and fishing boats, throughout the year. Surrounded by mangroves, Luperón is recognized as one of the safest hurricane shelters in the Caribbean, with no recorded direct hits from hurricanes.
The Year Round Safe Marina
Puerto Blanco is a safe marina located inside the bay, providing year-round protection from surges, including during hurricane season. It accommodates boats with drafts up to 7 feet and serves as a popular gathering place for cruisers and local families. The marina hosts lively social events featuring international and Dominican food, along with bachata and merengue dancing. It has long been the heart of Luperon’s cruising community, encouraging social interactions among guests. Dogs are allowed if on leads, adding to the friendly atmosphere. Surrounded by a peaceful garden, the marina is perfect for yoga, working with free Wi-Fi, and allows cruisers to home-school their children in a calm environment.
